I’m 25, female, and recently moved into our own house. Before this, I lived in a rented house and had a crush on a guy who lived below me. For three years, we’d see each other on the terrace but never spoke. One day, I finally started a conversation, and after a month of talking, he told me he liked me.
At first, I said no because I wasn’t sure about his future plans, but after thinking about it, I said yes. In the beginning, everything felt amazing. He was sweet, caring, and made me feel special. But after a few months, he started to change. He became less attentive, and after his father passed away, he barely talked to me. I gave him space and tried to understand, but I felt very lonely.
At home, things were tough too. My family kept accusing me of having an affair, and I barely had any time for myself. He started getting upset with me for not talking to him enough. It all became too much, so I broke up with him. He said I broke a promise to stay with him until one of us got married, but I never made that promise.
Even though breaking up was hard, I felt so much lighter afterward. But was there anything else I could have done?
